For bloggers, Search engine indexing is the process where your blog posts or articles are being brought to the Search Engine’s database so Internet searchers are able to see what you write. And if you’re a blogger who write news reports, your blog should be indexed as fast as possible. This has been a big problem with blogger/blogspot users for the past years.
For fast search engine indexing, some bloggers rely on increasing their blog’s PR (PageRank). This is done by exchanging links to other websites as many as many as they can. Most of them are being choosy by of course selecting blogs with high PR so the impact would be great. Increasing PageRank is also achieved by commenting on “do follow” blogs using your blog name and URL.
While doing the exchanging links, pinging your blog manually or automatically can also help. Pinging, on the other hand is the process of notifying the search engine that your blog has a new content. It is like saying “I have a new content, come and crawl me!”. I am doing this for sometime but later became lazy about it. Hehe.
Another way is to manually send your newly posted article to social discovery sites like Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon and the like. But the next way is my favorite.
My favorite way of indexing our blogger/blogspot fast is to “Create a Sitemap”. A sitemap is a list of pages of a web site accessible to crawlers or users. According to labnol.org;
The default XML sitemap file of any Blogger blog will have only the 26 most recent blog posts. That’s a limitation because some of your older blog pages, that are missing in the default XML sitemap file, may never get indexed in search engines. There’s however a simple solution to fix this problem.
How to Add a Google Sitemap to your Blogger/Blogspot Blog?
This step can be used by both .blogspot.com blogs and also those with custom domain. Remember, blogger and blogspot blogs only!
1. Type the full address of your blog on this Sitemap Generator. Then click the “Create Sitemap” button.
2. Copy the entire generated text. See screenshot below.
3. Go to your Blogger Dashboard, and under Settings > Search Preferences, the enable Custom robots.txt option (available in the Crawling and Indexing section). There, paste the code you have copied earlier. And there you go, watch the result. Happy blogging!
